Jeff Barry
Jeff started Boston Organics in 2002 with the goal of bringing fresh
organic produce to the people of the Boston area. Previously,
Jeff was living in the San Francisco Bay Area where he was a freelance
market research and data analyst. Jeff also served as a Peace Corps
volunteer in the Comoros Islands off the coast of East Africa. He holds
a Masters degree in Environmental Economics and International Business
from Tufts University. He is married with two sons and a cat. Prior to
becoming a dad and starting Boston Organics, Jeff was an avid mountain
biker and yoga practitioner. Most of Jeff’s free time is now spent
cooking with his family and searching for playgrounds, slides and ramps
for his oldest son to enjoy.
Matt Burt
Matt grew up in Massachusetts and moved to Boston to
attend Massachusetts Communications College, studying audio production.
In late 2002 he moved to Philadelphia, where he worked at an
animal hospital and worked a few retail jobs. Upon returning
to Boston in 2005, Matt learned about Boston Organics, and heard
that they were hiring. He spends most of his time at work making
deliveries and listening to NPR. In his free time Matt enjoys
playing music, cooking, and watching educational programming
on TV.
Bill Ironfield
Bill works in the
warehouse pickin' and packin' and makin' sure the produce is at
the quality the customer expects. Ex-bicycle messenger and cubicle
captain at the Boston Phoenix, Bill joined the Boston Organics
team in September of 2005. Bill plays the guitar and banjo in
the name-less, old-time stringband with other members of the warehouse
and would probably rather be fishing than most anything else.
Galen Lipin
Galen braved the dense
rainforests and sprawling deserts of Southern New Hampshire
and made his way south on a makeshift raft via the raging
rapids of the Merrimac River. Running aground in Lowell, MA, he
hoped to break into the field of mill-style building construction,
though quickly discovered the local market was thoroughly saturated.
Four years later he found himself with a degree in Music Business
from the University of Massachusetts. After a two-year stint conceptualizing
and handling national, tour, and event publicity for a variety
of clients in the music world, Galen joined up with the crew at
Boston Organics where he helps out in the warehouse, on the road,
and in the office. An avid enjoyer of biking, vegan food, playing
guitars, and drinking coffee, he, his wife Libby, and their two
cats call Somerville, MA, home.
Dan Mickus
Dan came to Boston Organics
after four years working at a local financial institution. His days
of preparing financial reports and tweaking spreadsheets have
helped him handle the quirky task of delivery logistics. Dan writes
and records music and fixes his van in his spare time.
Nate Puffer
Nate has an educational
background in the natural resource sciences, economics, and law.
He is glad to be a contributing member of this growing small business
with an ecology-conscious mission. A "retired" lawyer,
he spends as much time as possible learning and playing old-time
songs and tunes on the mandolin and fiddle, writing about issues
of great theoretical importance, and performing on mandolin with
the band Bread and Roses. Also he bakes cornbread often and prepares
sandwiches nearly every day to eat while cheerfully delivering your
organic produce and contemplating the many pressing social issues
of our times.
