Produce Info, Storage Tips and Recipes

Blueberries

Blueberries

The Basics

Blueberries are indigenous to North America and have been growing in the wild for over 13,000 years. In 2006, U.S. production was an estimated 536 million pounds! (Read more on the Blueberry Council website.)

Storage Tips

Store unwashed berries in the refrigerator. Use quickly, as fresh organic berries are not sprayed with anti-fungal agents. They spoil quickly!

Nutrition

Blueberries provide only 84 calories per cup and are an excellent source of fiber, vitamin C, vitamin K, and manganese. They also contain tons of antioxidants that have been linked to anti-aging, anti-cancer, and heart-health benefits. In fact, recent research shows that blueberries can help slow memory loss and improve coordination! (Read more about blueberry research at Tufts.edu and get more nutrition facts at Self.com.)
