Chives

Chives

The Basics

Chives are the smallest species of edible onions and are commonly used as a culinary herb. They also have insect-repelling properties and can be used in gardens to control pests. (Read more about chives on Wikipedia.)

Storage Tips

Herbs in a plastic clamshell package actually keep well for a few days in the clamshell package in the refrigerator.

If your herbs didn't come in a clamshell package, trim the stems then place them into a jar with about an inch of water in the bottom. If you need to refrigerate the herbs, place a plastic bag over the herbs/jar and then refrigerate.

Nutrition

Chives are a great source of fiber, vitamin A, vitamin C, vitamin K, riboflavin, vitamin B6, folate, calcium, iron, magnesium, potassium, copper, and manganese. (See more chive nutrition facts on Self.com.)
