Produce Info, Storage Tips and Recipes

Mangoes

Mangoes

The Basics

Mangoes are stone fruits that account for about half of all of the tropical fruits produced worldwide. They vary in size and color but usually have a sweet yellow-orange flesh, covering a large, fibrous pit. (Read more about mangoes on Wikipedia.)

Storage Tips

Store mangoes at room temperature for even ripening. Ripe mangoes will keep for a couple days in the refrigerator. Haitian and Ataulfo mangoes will be soft and may have a wrinkly skin when they are ripe.

Nutrition

Mangoes are a great source of vitamins A, C, K, E, and B6. They also contain important phytochemicals, like carotenoids, which may inhibit cancer cell growth as well as improve immunity. (See more mango nutrition facts on Self.com.)
