Frequently Asked Questions

Where does your produce come from?

We buy locally as much as possible. During the late spring, summer, and fall, alot of the produce comes from Vermont, Maryland, New Jersey, and Massachusetts. However, because of a limited growing season, difficult growing conditions, scarce labor pool, and suburban development, the organic wholesale market in New England is limited. As a result, a large portion comes from California. Tropical fruit, such as bananas and mangoes, comes from organic farms in Central and South America.

How do your prices compare to those of organic retailers?

Because of lower operating costs, our prices tend to be very competitive compared to the grocery store. Don't forget, there is no delivery fee for this service*. In addition, you do not have to pay for gas or the wear and tear on your car, and you save valuable time. *A $5 fee may apply to deliveries in the Financial District and office buildings; please call or email for specifics.

How fresh is your produce?

In general the produce does not stay in our possession for more than 48 hours. Produce is often delivered fresh from our suppliers on the day of delivery. We order only what we need for each delivery day. Any leftovers at the end of the week are distributed amongst employees and donated to Food For Free.

How do I know what I'm getting is really organic?

All our produce has been certified by independent organizations such as North East Organic Food Association (NOFA). As of October 2002, all organic producers selling organic produce in the US must meet stringent standards set, verified and regularly inspected by the USDA.

Do you deliver to businesses?

Yes. Tired of junk food at the office? The box works great for the office too! You tell us what fruits you do not want us to bring. Keep in mind that if your office has limited facilities, you may want to omit any fruits that require cutting, i.e, melons.
