Celery

Celery

The Basics

Celery is thought to have originated in the Mediterranean region, but is now grown and enjoyed all over the world. It is often used with onions and carrots as a base for many sauces and soups; this special trio goes by many names, including "mirepoix" in French cuisine, "sofritto" in Italian, and the "holy trinity" in Creole and Cajun cuisine. Storage Tips

Celery should be refrigerated. Try wrapping the entire celery head in aluminum foil, then storing it in the fridge to keep it fresh.

Nutrition

Celery is a good source for vitamins A, C, and K, folate, and potassium. It also contains chemicals that may lower both blood pressure and cholesterol! (Read more on World's Healthiest Foods.)
